Reminder - I'll be holding a Parent Information night tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:30 to explain how my new grading policies will work in Social Studies and/or Literature classes. I hope to see you there!
Social Studies
Students learned a new reading strategy today - called the Cornell Note-taking System (CNS). The CNS shows students how to read difficult portions of text and to summarize the information into their own ideas. We read and completed a CNS for an article on globalization as a class. After that, students were given portions of an article on China's recent growth to complete a CNS on their own. We'll finish the CNS started today in class on Friday.
Literature
I introduced the new February Vocabulary root words to the students today. We spent some time reviewing the roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Students then completed their own mini-poster for one of the words. A lot of students didn't finish today - they'll need to complete their poster as homework before Friday.
