Thursday, 3.3 (Blue Day)

We didn't have any classes today ... students spent their time on the mountain racing their boxsleds. They had a blast showing off how they can apply what they've learned in Science and Math while building their boxsleds.

Wednesday, 3.2 (White Day)

Social Studies

Students in my White 12 class didn't have Social Studies today - the 6th grade students finished building their boxsleds for Thursday's race. The students in White 12 will have next Monday to finish their projects. The rest of the students (White 34 and White 56) spent their last day in the computer lab working on their Globalization projects ... come check them out! Student work will be displayed in the hall - some of the thought shown by our 6th graders is impressive.

Literature

We had our last day of FVR for awhile ... we'll spend next week learning how to use Functional Text while reading. The letter essays are still due on March 10th.

Tuesday, 3.1 (Blue)

Whoa ... what a week! I'm sorry that I fell behind in my postings.

Social Studies

Students spent their last day working in the computer lab on their Globalization projects. From what I've seen, they did extremely well - I'll have their work posted in the hall if you'd like to see what our 6th grade students have learned about Globalization ... pretty amazing stuff!

Literature

We didn't have literature today - students worked on their sled for Thursday's Boxsled Challenge.

Monday, 2.28 (White Day)

Social Studies

Students had their second of three work days on their final project on Globalization. We didn't watch or discuss the news - I wanted students to have as much time as possible to work on their assignments. This was the last day to work on their projects in class. Their final projects are due to me on Tuesday, March 8th.

Students had FVR today ... we spent the class period reading.

Wednesday, 2.23 (White Day)

Social Studies

I introduced our final project on Globalization today. Students spent Tuesday (and will also work the next two class periods) on a final project that answers three main questions. The questions are:

  1. What is Globalization?
  2. What caused Globalization?
  3. How will Globalization affect me?
Students have the choice of how to do their project. They can use programs on the computer, or they can handwrite the assignment in essay form. Many students are using Glogster or Prezi online - these are presentation programs that can be used anywhere they can access the internet.

The final project for the students in White 12 will be due Monday, March 7th. The project will on Wednesday, March 2nd.

Literature

Students worked on an assignment called "A Time for Everything" that focused on answering questions related to plot and theme, and finding the main idea and supporting details in the story. The assignment was due at the end of the class today.

Literature

Students had a work day today - I gave them one class period to turn in any missing assignments - we have quite a few assignments missing in our Literature classes. Any assignment that was turned in today was considered late ... this won't affect their score on their work - but I do think it's important that students and parents know that they're handing their work in late.
