Thursday, 2.3 (Blue Day)

Social Studies

Students did the same as the classes yesterday - their learned a new reading strategy (CNS or Cornell Note-taking System) that helps them to read difficult portions of text and to summarize the ideas that they've read. We read and did a CNS activity as a class, and then students were given an article on China's recent rise to power to complete their own CNS summaries. We didn't get the summaries done in class today - students will have the chance to finish them in class on Monday.

Literature

We spent the class looking at how an author creates conflict to build interest in a story to create a plot. We examined the idea of how an author purposefully uses problems in a story as a series of "high points" that move the story towards the ending. This was a whole-class discussion today and students didn't have any independent work.
