Tuesday, 1.25 (White)

Social Studies

Students worked on an assignment called "Where Are We Wearing?" As a class, we made a list of all of the places that the clothes we wore to school today were made. Using the list, we plotted these places on a world map and used statistical information from a Junior Scholastic magazine to analyze data to come up with a hypothesis that answers this question: "What determines which countries we buy our clothes from?"

This is a challenging assignment, but the kiddos did great work today - they were busy and thinking the entire class period. Because this took longer than I thought it would, I extended the due date until our next white day (Thursday, 1.27).

Literature

Students worked on an assignment that asked them to explain the author's purpose with the words they chose to use in a story (Zach's Lie). In the assignment, students were asked to study a word with multiple literal meanings, interpret which meaning the author intended, and explain how this meaning fits in with the rest of the story. This assignment was due at the end of class today.
